Review: Before talking about the plot of the book I would like to say it is difficult to make this review because it is hard not to do spoilers. Even so I hope that you can get an idea of the plot.
In the year 2083 for 17 days earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis and tornadoes occur worldwide. This leaves a smoke in the sky that prevents the passage of sun and there is also ash on the ground that destroyed food. Eliza (our protagonist) and her family miraculously survived but remain in a world full of fire, smoke and ash. In the first chapter the author presents the characters, costed me to imagine this characters to the beginning because not tell us how old they are and this not helps a lot because it is not the same one person with a 20 years or 40 years.
Regarding our protagonist Eliza I must say that I loved it because it is strong and brave, just the necessary to these stories. She and her brothers are heirs to the English crown and they travel to London to pretend before people that ‘all is well’ when nothing is going right. When they get there occur many murders and then she decides to flee and she is becoming even stronger. The other characters I do not like anything like Mary because I had not understood them, also did not seem credible the characters. In general the characters are weak except for Eliza.
The first few chapters are somewhat slower, but starting from the fifth chapter the book has a very fast pace and causes you will read it at once. It provokes a lot of intrigue despite having short chapters because it has a lot of action and with this book you can not say ‘one more chapter and I go to sleep.’
I must warn that the book has unpleasant and cruel moments that thrill a lot or at least to me. I did not expect difficult moments despite being an apocalyptic book I thought it would be calmer. So ignore any title, no princesses, it’s a complicated story. I think this story would like to most of the people who read it because it also has love even a little, of course there is much more suffering. If you are fan of the apocalyptic stories you should read this book.
This is the perfect book for rainy days when you can not go out and just want drink a coffee reading a good book. As you can see is an apocalyptic book and I love the apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic books, I think it’s the category that I like. So all the books of this genre have high expectations of me and this book disappointed me a little. My valuation for this book is 4/5.
PS: We should not judge a book by its cover, but is too pretty!
