So begins Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen’s witty comedy of manners–one of the most popular novels of all time–that features splendidly civilized sparring between the proud Mr. Darcy and the prejudiced Elizabeth Bennet as they play out their spirited courtship in a series of eighteenth-century drawing-room intrigues.

Review: This book began with a great desire and  expectations for my part, and yet not disappoint me in the least. I had always heard very good reviews for this novel but I thought they were being exaggerated or simply they have different tastes to mine, but it is a book that really worth. Not because it is a classic means that to everyone has to like us, however, I think this book will like to most people who read it. You’ll learn things from that period while you entertain and fall in love with the characters.

The Bennet family are the protagonists of the novel, is formed by Mr. and Mrs. Bennet and his five daughters (Jane, Elizabeth, Lydia, Kitty and Mary). The story begins when Mrs. Bennet learns that a boys rich have moved and now are almost neighbors, since she wants her daughters marry. The young rich are Bingley and Darcy. From the first moment Jane and Bingley have something between them so his mother will strive for them to marry. Quite the opposite occurs with Elizabeth and Darcy, who surround themselves with pride and prejudice. Thereafter begins a story of dances, parties, discussions, secrets, breaks …

All the characters are beautifully created. They are characters with personality and very complex, so it is sometimes difficult to understand their actuation. My favorite character was Darcy by its evolution throughout the novel. Although he is an arrogant and proud man, but in the end we see that has a big heart after his appearance. Another of the characters that I liked and that stands in the novel is Elizabeth, which is very different from her sisters. All her sisters want to have expensive and beautiful objects. However she is not as they, she does not hide her opinions by interest and says what he feels, but is carried away by her prejudice. I think one of the phrases she says describes her personality quite well” Laugh as much as you choose, but you will not laugh me out of my opinion”. But I also want to highlight another phrase that she said and I liked it ” There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense”. Their relationship develops slowly, mature slowly so they transmit sensations to excite many. I think the thing most known of this couple are his dialogues, which are realistic, intense and deep (and sometimes must be analyzed to understand what they really mean).

Regarding the author Jane Austen I must only highlight his great and profound prose. She get criticize society (hypocritical and ludicrous) that she lived in a very subtle and elegant way without sacrificing humor and irony. But without a doubt, are the characters which portray the society full of complexity. After reading this great novel, I want read more novels by her because I have fallen in love with his writing.

In short, Pride and Prejudice is a classic which deserves to be. Jane shows the Victorian period a beautiful and entertaining way with incredible dialogues. Definitely a recommended book and my valuation of this book is 5/5.
